History of the theater
October 23, 1920 in the newspaper "Azerbaijani poor" a message appeared that according to the Resolution of the People's Commissariat of Education, Azerneshr and Azrosta the State Free Satire-Agitetariat was opened, and on December 20, 1920 a solemn opening was held.
The newly created theater was formed from the remnants of the NF Baliyev Theater's "Flying Mouse" disbanded in Tiflis and parts of the collective of the Momus Theater, which was disbanded by the revolutionary government. The management of the Directory included V.Shvetser (Pessimist) - head. literary part of the theater "The Bat", a native of Baku, a famous Moscow journalist and writer who took over the functions of the main director, the administrative unit was headed by P. Oreshkov ("The Bat"). Literary - N. Gorodetsky ("Momus"), artistic - B. Voronov ("The Bat"). Later, the management of the theater passed entirely into the hands of VZ Schweitzer (Pessimist), who carried out almost the entire director's work. To this work, VG Sakhnovsky (Moscow Demonstrative Theater), Sergei Voronov (artist of the Moscow Art Theater), artists - A.Arapov and P.Uzunov (I Studio of the Moscow Art Theater), E. The performances of the Satire-Agiteteat were witty montages consisting of one-act plays, ditties, reviews, staged poems and songs, choreographic compositions for the day's rage, revived plastic paintings of revolutionary artists, etc. The theater of small forms for the proletarian poor, called to carry out the functions of political agitation, existed until 1923.
By the decision of the Baku City Executive Committee on April 29, it is renamed the Baku Workers Theater, which already on October 25 meets its audience with the premiere of the play "The City in the Ring" based on the play by S. Minin (director D.Gutman, artist Vyach Ivanov).
Initially, the cast included actors who came from Odessa, Moscow, Irkutsk - N. Snezhina, N. Leschinskaya, L. Morozova, L. Litvinova, O. Lanskaya, A. Gorsky, S. Taneyev, K. Lavretsky, S. Klimov, N. In 1924 at the BRT, the Practical Classroom opens, where since 1926 the skills of the professional craft of the students have been taught by the "Meyerhaldists" who joined the troupe: V.Fyodorov, S.Mayorov (directors), M.Zharov (actor). The troupe is replenished (1926) by artists - F.Ranevskaya, V.Kuznetsov; artists - S.Efimenko and I.Shletenov.
The performances of young talented directors and artists were not lost on the general background of the theatrical life of the new state, favorably differing in the variety of stylistic stylistics, corresponding not only to the spirit of the times, but also to the creative individuality of each of them. And with the appearance of the works of Azerbaijani playwrights in the repertoire, the public status of the theater also increases.
And in 1937 he was renamed the Azerbaijan State Red Banner Theater of Russian Drama.
Gradually, thanks to the established practice of touring trips from the 1920s to the neighboring cities of the North Caucasus and Transcaucasia, and later expanding the geography of tours throughout the entire Soviet Union, the theater becomes popular and is considered one of the leading theater companies.
